Group your accounts for cleaner budgets and reports

If your chart of accounts has grown into a long, flat list of income and expense lines, you can finally tidy it up. BeeKeeper now lets you create account groups — think “Events,” “Administration,” “Membership” — and roll related accounts up under them, so your books read like your organization actually works.

Head to Chart of Accounts and switch to the new By Group view, then open Manage Groups. It works like a set of Trello-style boards: drag income and expense accounts between group columns, click a group’s name to rename it, and add new groups as you need them. Everything saves automatically as you go, so there’s no separate save button to remember. (Only income and expense accounts can be grouped — asset, liability, and equity accounts stay as they are.)

Once you’ve set up groups, they show up everywhere it counts. Budgets now split into separate Income and Expense sections, each subtotaled by group, with a running net total — and that same grouping carries through to your Budget PDF and new Excel export. Your Profit & Loss, Budget vs. Actual, Treasurer Report, Trial Balance, and Chart of Accounts report all sub-group income and expense accounts too, so board members can see at a glance how much came in — or went out — for each part of your program.

While we were in there tidying up, we also added a way to merge duplicate accounts. If you’ve ended up with two “Fall Festival” accounts by accident, open one from the Actions menu, choose Merge, and pick the account to fold it into — BeeKeeper moves every transaction, budget line, and rule over for you.
