Introducing the Tax Center: E-File Your 990-N

Say goodbye to retyping your organization’s information into the IRS website. The new Tax Center, right in your left navigation, walks you through filing Form 990-N — the annual e-Postcard that small tax-exempt organizations file when gross receipts are normally $50,000 or less — and sends it to the IRS for you.

The form shows up already filled in with what BeeKeeper knows about you: legal name, EIN, address, phone, and your principal officer. You’re just confirming those details, not typing them from scratch. Your filing deadline is worked out from your own fiscal year, so a June year-end PTA sees “due by November 15,” not a rule to figure out for yourself — and if you’re already late, it tells you that too instead of leaving you guessing. Next to the $50,000 attestation, we show the income total from your own books as a guide (it only knows what’s been entered in BeeKeeper, so the final check is still yours).

Before anything goes to the IRS, your return runs through a review step that checks it the same way the IRS will — so a typo in your EIN or a mismatched year gets caught while it’s still free and easy to fix. Once you transmit, BeeKeeper takes it from there: you’ll get an email when the IRS responds, usually within minutes, and the accepted return is saved right in the Tax Center as your proof of filing. If the IRS ever rejects a return, you’ll see exactly why next to everything you submitted, so you can fix it and re-file in the same place — no starting over.

Every return you file stays in your Tax Center’s filing history, so it’s there for the auditor or the next treasurer who inherits the job. The Tax Center is included with your BeeKeeper subscription — just open it from the left navigation when you’re ready to file.
