Redeeming a Gift
You’ve Been Given a Gift
Someone ran a Gift It! event to collect a gift for you from a group. Once it closed, HelpOut turned the contributions into a gift card and emailed you a redemption code.
You choose which retailer the gift card is from — there are over 1,000 to pick from, and the card can be used online or in store.
Redeeming from the Email
The email arrives from the HelpOut Team with the event’s name as the subject. Open it and follow the link. You’ll see:
- Who the gift is for
- Every message the contributors left for you
- A Redeem your gift button
Click the button and pick your retailer.
Redeeming with Your Code
If you can’t find the email, you can redeem with your code instead:
- Go to helpout.us/redeem.
- Enter your 8-character redemption code.
- Click Redeem.
The code looks like ABCD-EFGH. It uses letters and numbers only. You don’t need an account to redeem.
If the Code Doesn’t Work
The page tells you if a code is invalid or has already been redeemed. The usual causes:
- A typo. The code never contains the letters I, L, O, or Q, or the numbers 0 or 1, so characters that look alike aren’t in play. Re-check the ones you entered.
- It’s already been redeemed. A code works once. If you already picked a retailer, your gift card was delivered at that point — look for the email from the gift card provider rather than redeeming again.
- The event hasn’t closed yet. Codes are issued the morning after collection ends.
If none of those explain it, email support@futurefund.com with the code and we’ll look it up.
After You Redeem
Once you choose a retailer, the gift card is issued to you directly by the gift card provider and the HelpOut code is used up. Anything after that — balances, expiration, where it can be spent — is handled by the retailer whose card you chose.
The messages your group left stay on your redemption page, so you can go back and read them.
