Connecting Your Unit to FutureFund (Membership Sync)
Let FutureFund keep your member list up to date
If your unit sells memberships on FutureFund (our fundraising and selling platform), you can connect that account to FutureFund Connect. Once connected, your members flow into Connect automatically, so you never have to add or import them by hand.
This is a great companion to the Memberships article. The Memberships article covers adding members yourself; this article covers letting FutureFund do it for you.
What you'll need first
Connecting works by matching your unit’s EIN (your tax ID number) to your FutureFund account. Before you start, make sure your unit’s EIN is saved in Connect.
- If your unit has no EIN yet, you’ll see a notice asking you to add one. You may need to reach out to FutureFund support for help adding it.
- You’ll also need a FutureFund account with at least one membership campaign set up. If you don’t have an account yet, you can create one during the steps below.
How to connect
- Open your unit and go to Memberships.
- Click the Actions button, then choose Connect to FutureFund.
- On the connect screen, confirm your unit’s legal name and EIN look correct.
- Click Find FutureFund Account. Connect will look up your account using your EIN.
- When your account is found, you’ll see it listed as FutureFund Account Found. Below it, you’ll see your membership campaigns, each with a member count.
- Check the boxes for the campaigns you want to sync. (All are selected for you by default.)
- Click Connect and Sync Members.
That’s it. Connect saves the connection and runs the first sync right away, pulling in members from the campaigns you chose.
Don’t have a FutureFund account yet? On the connect screen there’s a Create FutureFund Account button that takes you to sign up. Selling memberships online lets parents join from any device, and dues are split between your unit, council, district, and state automatically.
How syncing keeps working
You don’t have to do anything to stay up to date:
- Members are imported automatically from the FutureFund campaigns you selected.
- A sync runs every night (around 3 AM) so new members and changes appear in Connect on their own.
- To add or edit members, you do it in FutureFund. Those changes then flow back into Connect on the next sync.
Syncing now without waiting
If you’d rather not wait for the nightly sync, you can run one yourself.
- From Memberships, click Actions, then Manage Sync.
- On the FutureFund Membership Sync page, click Actions.
- Choose Sync Now.
Connect will pull the latest members right away and show you how many were created, updated, or removed. This page also shows your FutureFund Organization name and when the connection was Last Synced.
What changes on your Memberships page
While your unit is connected, FutureFund is in charge of your member list, so a few things change to keep everyone in sync:
- A green banner appears on Memberships: FutureFund membership sync enabled.
- The Add Member and Import Members options are turned off. (To add members, use FutureFund.)
- Individual members synced from FutureFund are read-only in Connect. They’re marked Synced from FutureFund, and you’ll see a note to Edit in FutureFund to make changes. You can view them, but you can’t edit or delete them here.
- You can still Export Members to a spreadsheet at any time.
This is intentional. It keeps one trusted copy of your member list and prevents accidental changes from getting out of sync.
Changing which campaigns sync
Need to sync a different set of campaigns?
- From Memberships, click Actions, then Manage Sync.
- Click Actions, then Edit.
- Update which membership campaigns are checked, then save.
Disconnecting from FutureFund
If you ever want to stop syncing:
- From Memberships, click Actions, then Manage Sync.
- Click Actions, then Disconnect.
- Confirm when asked.
After disconnecting, the members already synced into Connect stay on your list — they simply won’t be updated anymore. Your Add Member and Import Members options become available again, so you can manage your list directly in Connect.
Need a hand?
If Connect can’t find your account or a sync reports an error, double-check that your EIN matches the one on your FutureFund account, then try again. If you’re still stuck, reach out to FutureFund support and we’ll help you get connected.
